Getting Older Can Pay Off Through Discounts

Many companies offer senior discounts before the standard discount age of 65, on everything from groceries, to clothing, to travel, to meals at restaurants. Here are some tips on where to find them:

Look Online

There are many online deals and specials waiting for you, some of which may offer bigger savings than a senior discount. You may also be able to use special deals in addition to your senior discount.

Consider AARP

AARP (formerly known as formerly the American Association of Retired Persons) offers an inexpensive yearly membership for the 50-and-up group to save money on many different experiences. As a member, you’ll find discounts on travel, rental cars, retailers, food, groceries and drug stores, and more.

Ask Stores

Many stores offer senior discounts. If you don’t see any offered, make sure to ask. A store may not have advertised the discount or they may just give you one simply for asking. Many chain stores have different discount offers or age requirements at each of their locations. Call ahead to check on specific store policies. When you do see a senior deal advertised, most of the time all you have to do is show a photo ID to prove your age. Sometimes you may need to take a couple minutes to fill out a free form for a store membership program.

A good resource for finding senior discounts and saving money is the Senior List, which can be found here: www.theseniorlist.com/list-of-senior-discounts
