IRS2Go (iOS, Android)

The official mobile app of the IRS allows you to check the status of your federal income tax refund, make a payment on any taxes that you owe, and get free tax preparation assistance from an IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistant in your area. You can also request tax return information and account transcripts, and directly access FREE tax software from your mobile device to quickly prepare and file your taxes and get your refund. The app gives you tax updates and daily tips as well.

H&R Block Tax Prep and File (iOS, Android)

The H&R Block Tap Prep app allows you to prepare and file your taxes anywhere. Just tap to upload your tax return or take a photo of your W-2 and the app will import all your tax information for you. You can finish filing your tax return right from the app, or switch between devices. The H&R Block app also offers a connection to tax experts to assist you.

TaxACT Express (iOS, Android)

The TaxAct Express app will let you prepare and e-file your federal and state tax returns on your smartphone or tablet anywhere, anytime. The app’s built-in W-2 capture feature makes it simple to import tax information into your return. Touch ID/Face ID offers support for a quick and secure log-in experience. You can switch seamlessly from app to desktop, and pick up right where you left off. The free AskaCPA app, will give you answers to tax questions directly from a licensed CPA and grant you access to a database of questions and answers from other users. AskaCPA also shares listings for local accountants who can give your additional guidance.

TurboTax (iOS, Android)

TurboTax from Intuit offers a walkthrough for filing your taxes and coaches you through every step of the process. TurboTax double-checks all your information to make sure you inputted it correctly, checks for deductions and credits, gives you the option to connect with an expert live, saves your information with password protection and secure encryption, and stores your return in the TurboTax Cloud. TurboTax is free to download, but you will have to pay for federal and state filing.

TaxCaster by TurboTax (iOS, Android)

In addition to the TurboTax app, Intuit also offers TaxCaster, an income tax calculator that allows you to get a quick estimate of your 2018 refund, and lets you compare your tax obligation estimate with the 2017 and 2018 tax laws, to see how tax reform might affect you. The app uses the same tax calculator available in the desktop version of TurboTax.

TaxSlayer (iOS, Android)

TaxSlayer is a free app that allows you to estimate, prepare, and file your taxes. You can also estimate your refund using your W-2 or paycheck, find out more about tax laws and how they affect your refund, see the status of your tax return and receive update notifications. The app also provides guidance and insight video.

Credit Karma Tax (iOS, Android)

Credit Karma Tax is built into the free Credit Karma app, which lets you monitor your credit profile and scores. The tax part of the app allows you to file your federal and state taxes for free, import returns from previous years, upload a picture of your W-2 to begin automatically filling out your tax forms, and track credits, deductions, and refunds via a customized checklist.
